2016 Cuvée Kristina Magnum
95 points, Vinous
Deep vivid ruby. Energetic, sharply focused red berry, floral pastille and Asian spice qualities on the nose, along with suggestions of incense and smoky minerals. Sweet and seamless in texture, offering intense raspberry liqueur, spice cake and lavender pastille flavors that deepen and expand on the back half. Clings with impressive authority on the youthfully tannic finish, which leaves a suave floral note behind.

The 2016 Cuvée Kristina (70% Syrah, 28% Grenache and 2% Viognier) is, I believe, a new wine from the estate, and it’s sourced from a number of vineyards in the Central Coast including Les Galets, Larner, Shadow Canyon (York Mountain), and Kimsey Vineyards. This deep purple-colored effort offers lots of black and blue fruits, plenty of pepper, medium to full body, rocking purity of fruit, and great length and intensity. It has upfront charm but will keep nicely for 7-8 years.
This estate hit a home run with these latest 2016s, and the charming, more supple style of the vintage worked perfectly with the more savory, classic style preferred by McPrice Myers. These are unquestionably the finest wines I’ve tasted from him, and readers should snatch up these wines.

Offers expressive huckleberry and sassafras aromas that combine with vibrant and layered raspberry and licorice flavors, persisting toward well-honed tannins.
