2016 Cuvée Kristina
Cuvée Kristina is a wine dedicated to Mac’s wife Kristina. The first vintage of Cuvée Kristina was 2005, the year Kristina and Mac were married, and is made up of the most elite barrels of that particular vintage.
Marionberry, ollalaberry, and potpourri on the nose. Crushed lavender, ripe black olive, and flowers on the palate. This wine is deep and dark, while the Grenache keeps it lifted. Pair with prime rib and potato gratin with all the trimmings.

The 2016 Cuvée Kristina (70% Syrah, 28% Grenache and 2% Viognier) is, I believe, a new wine from the estate, and it’s sourced from a number of vineyards in the Central Coast including Les Galets, Larner, Shadow Canyon (York Mountain), and Kimsey Vineyards. This deep purple-colored effort offers lots of black and blue fruits, plenty of pepper, medium to full body, rocking purity of fruit, and great length and intensity. It has upfront charm but will keep nicely for 7-8 years.
This estate hit a home run with these latest 2016s, and the charming, more supple style of the vintage worked perfectly with the more savory, classic style preferred by McPrice Myers. These are unquestionably the finest wines I’ve tasted from him, and readers should snatch up these wines.
